Stingers/Burners Syndrome

Addressing Nerve Damage at Central City Chiropractic

Man with ice pack on his shoulderStingers/Burners syndrome is the term given to describe a compression or stretch injury to the brachial plexus. The brachial plexus is a complex of nerves in your neck/shoulder region which the nerves running from your neck form on their way to your arms. Stingers/burners syndrome is common in contact sports such as rugby, wrestling or football. A hit to the head or shoulder can cause overstretch or compression to the brachial plexus, resulting in damage to the nerves.

If you are suffering from a burners syndrome, you may experience immediate sharp neck pain following a trauma, which may extend into your shoulder, arm or hand. Pins and needles, as well as weakness, may also occur. If presenting to Central City Chiropractic in Perth CBD with a burners syndrome, your chiropractor will first determine the extent of your injury and if any further investigations, such as X-rays are required.

Addressing Inflammation and Injury

Your treatment will initially focus on methods to decrease any inflammation present. Following this, any residual injury will be addressed. This may involve work on the muscles and joints in your neck and shoulder region; stretching, massage and joint mobilisation/manipulation are all possible treatment options.
