Dr Alyssa Chan (Chiropractor)

Alyssa Chan chiropractorHi, my name is Alyssa and I am a chiropractor who has treated patients from all ages and all walks of life. I have volunteered on chiropractic trips to treat people in the impoverished community of Siliguri, India in 2014 (as a part of “Hands On India”), as well as in rural parts of Western Australia such as Tom Price and Paraburdoo in 2015. I believe everyone can benefit from the effects of chiropractic treatment however one must be open to changing for the better. As a chiropractor working within the heart of the city, I naturally love to see and treat office workers with stubborn neck and low back pain and educate them in the importance of preventative spinal care. I also have an interest in women’s health and enjoy treating the extended family to ensure that everyone is functioning at their most happy and healthy best.

As a chiropractic patient myself who continues to receive regular treatment to this day, I understand the natural habits that people unconsciously revert to during sustained seated positions. As a creative individual, I would often sit for hours in one position hunched over on the floor writing, typing, reading, playing the guitar, or hand-stitching clothes. I believe therefore I can relate to and thoroughly enjoy treating office workers because I understand the stresses and impact these sustained postures can have on both the body and mind.

To me, chiropractic is about restoring normal functioning to your spine and nervous systems so that you can maintain an optimum self-regulating internal environment that consequently enables you to function, excel, and perform at your best. My chiropractic vision is one that focuses on holistic healthcare and patient-centred approaches to treatment.

I enjoy discussing with you your goals, dreams and expectations of your treatment plan and will always make sure that you receive the best treatment from me.

I would describe my treatment style to be gentle and combined with modalities such as the following: manual adjustments, mobilisations, drop piece, activator, biomechanical blocking, and trigger point therapy.

I believe being a chiropractor is a fulfilling calling as it enables me to combine my love of human biology with my caring nature. On the other hand, outside of being a chiropractor, I also like to embrace the creative side of my personality. I am a huge music geek and enjoy music of the indie and alternative rock persuasion, and love to play the guitar and sing to my own covers of favourite songs. I also enjoy writing stories and poetry, designing and creating things by hand like clothes and jewellery, and watching horror films. I am also a sports fanatic and enjoy watching (and used to play) soccer and tennis the most. Though contrary to what you may have just read about me, I am also a very outdoorsy person and love to go on spontaneous adventures and road trips – whether that is internationally or locally. If you are lucky, you may have seen me walking my pet chocolate-coloured Chihuahua (who I like to dress in a red checkered coat during cooler weathers) during my days off. I like to go for walks as often as I can as taking just a little time out of a busy day to go for a stroll is, I believe, essential to a happy mindset and healthy well-being.

If any of what you’ve just read about me made you feel a connection, I’d love to help and look forward meeting you.
